Edgar Martinez won’t be the Seattle Mariners’ hitting coach next season. The Mariners say Martinez, who spent all of his 18 years as a player with the Mariners and more recently the past four as their hitting coach, will still stay in a new role as the franchise’s organizational hitting adviser.
SEATTLE (AP) — Edgar Martinez is stepping down as the hitting coach for the Seattle Mariners and moving into a new role as a hitting adviser for the entire organization, the club announced Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the Seattle Mariners unveiled Martinez’s statue overlooking Edgar Martinez Drive on the south side of T-Mobile Park. It’s the third one the team has installed at the stadium, with Martinez’s statue located about 100 feet away from his longtime teammate Griffey’s.
Tony Arnerich (Hitting Coach) will be in his 1st season as the club’s Major League Hitting Coach. He spent the past two seasons (2020 & 2021) as the Mariners Minor League Field and Catching Coordinator.

Edgar Martinez was born on January 2, 1963, in New York City to Jose and Christina Salgado Martinez. At age 2, when his parents divorced, Edgar and his siblings were sent to live with his grandparents, Mario Salgado and Manuela Rivera, in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
