According to this classification system, four major climatic belts―equatorial, tropical, mid-latitude and arctic (Antarctic), which are dominated by equatorial, tropical, polar and arctic (Antarctic) air masses respectively―are differentiated in the globe.
In India, (Bansal & Minke, 1988) had carried out detailed studies and reported that India can be divided into six climatic zones, namely, hot and dry, warm and humid, moderate, cold and cloudy, cold and sunny, and composite. The criteria of classification are described in Table 1.
The Earth has three main climate zones: tropical, temperate, and polar. The climate region near the equator with warm air masses is known as tropical.
There are six distinct climate groups; Equitorial, Tropical, Sub-tropical, Desert, Grassland and Temperate. The Temperate zone occupies the coastal regions of New South Wales (Sydney), Victoria (Great Ocean Road, East Gippsland, Phillip Island), Tasmania and most of South Australia (Kangaroo Island, Eyre Peninsula).
Sub-Saharan Africa has four climate zones: desert, semiarid or Sahel, savanna (grasslands), and tropical forests.
Climate Zone 7 is the southernmost coastal region of California. The warm ocean water and latitude make this climate very mild. The temperature of the ocean water affects the air temperature over it, and this in turn moderates temperatures over the coastal strip.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Sydney falls in the temperate climate zone which has warm to hot summers and no dry season. Sydney’s plant hardiness zone ranges from zone 11a to 9b throughout the metropolitan area.
Climate Zone 6 includes the beaches at the foot of the southern California hills, as well as several miles of inland area where hills are low or nonexistent. The Pacific Ocean is relatively warm in these longitudes and keeps the climate very mild. Most of the rain falls during the warm, mild winters.
As the aggregate result of those various meteorological patterns, the following types of climate may be distinguished in Asia: the tundra climate (associated with the cold, treeless plains of the Arctic lowlands of Asia); the cold, sharply continental climate of eastern Siberia; the cold, moderately humid western …
Most regions of New Zealand belong to the temperate zone with a maritime climate (Köppen climate classification: Cfb) characterised by four distinct seasons.
Current Climatology of North Africa Along the coast, North Africa has a Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers, with ample rainfall of approximately 400 to 600 mm per year.
USDA Zone 8 covers most of the Pacific Northwest and a great swath of the American South, including Texas and Florida.
Zones 9 to 11 in the United States encompass such areas as Texas, California, Louisiana, Florida, and other southern areas of the states. Their characteristics regarding water vary, however, which is also a consideration when choosing plants.
Zone 14 includes the cold-winter valley floors, canyons, and land troughs in the Coast Ranges from Santa Barbara County to Humboldt County. The milder-winter, marine-influenced areas in Zone 14 and the cold-winter inland valley within Zone 14 differ in humidity.
The Lake Macquarie LGA spans both the coastal and central climate zones.
The subtropical zone includes the eastern coastline from Coff’s Harbour in northern NSW, Brisbane and north to Mackay.
Cool Mountain Region with mild or warm summers and cold, frosty winters. This zone covers the high areas of the New South Wales, Northern Tablelands (Armidale, Guyra, Glen Innes), Southern Tablelands, Canberra/ and most of Tasmania.
Zone 8b means that the average minimum winter temperature is 15 to 20 °F. … When you purchase a plant that is described as “hardy to zone 8”, it means that the plant can withstand a range of minimum temperatures (zone 8a and 8b) from 10 °F to 20 °F .
Zone 10: 30 to 40°F Zone 10 sees some of the hottest temperatures in the U.S., prevalent in tropical places such as Southern California and Southern Florida. Plants in this zone can handle temperatures as low as 30 to 40°F. Common Plants: Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spectabilis)
If you are in USDA zone 4, you’re probably somewhere in the interior of Alaska. This means that your area gets long, warm days during the summer with high temps in the 70’s and lots of snow and average cold temps of -10 to -20 F.
The climate of South Asia can be divided into three basic kinds: tropical, dry, and temperate. The northeast is from tropical to subtropical (temperate). Moving west the moisture and elevation change, causing a steppe and a desert climate that is like the Middle East.
In general, the weather in South America is hot and humid. Countries in the Amazon baisn like Northern Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela have are dominated by rainforest and have consistent hot and humid weather year-round with high rainfall. … The climate in South America is much more volatile further south.
Three climatic zones, however, characterize West Asia: a continental climate in the northern regions; a dry zone, except where northerly winds bring moisture to the mountains, to the south; and a Mediterranean climate along the western edges.
Wellington region Temperate marine climate, relatively windy. Summer: 17-21°C. Winter: 9-10°C.

Knowing what plant hardiness zone you are in is helpful, find this in a New Zealand gardening book (Auckland is Zone 10).
The climate of South Africa is determined by South Africa’s situation between 22°S and 35°S, in the Southern Hemisphere’s subtropical zone, and its location between two oceans, Atlantic and the Indian.
Climate. West Africa has wet and dry seasons resulting from the interaction of two migrating air masses. … The lowland climates of West Africa are characterized by uniformly high sunshine and high temperatures throughout the year; mean annual temperatures are usually above 18°C.
Climate ranges from tropical rain forest in the Congo River basin to tropical wet-and-dry in the southern uplands to tropical highland in eastern areas above 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) in elevation. In general, temperatures and humidity are quite high.
USDA Zone 10 Southern Florida, including cities such as Miami and Naples, are in zone 10. The zone includes a long stretch of the California coastal area and a very small part of southern, central Arizona.
Zone 9: The minimum average temperature range is 20°F to 30°F. Zone 9a: The minimum average temperature range is 20°F to 25° F. Zone 9b: The minimum average temperature range is 25°F to 30°F.
